Oh, dear, love. You are in for a big surprise. Your boyfriend needs to be employed by a large company to obtain the best health care coverage in America. If he does, ask about the company and/or insurance company's policy on domestic partners. It is entirely up to the company and/or insurance policy whether or not you and your children qualify. If you do not, you will need to get married soon in order to qualify to be on his plan, or purchase an individual policy for you and your children, which will run you approx. $300 USD or much more, depending on what coverage you select. There is no nationalized health care in the U.S., so each and every time you visit the doctor - even with insurance - you will be paying something. Without insurance, a standard doctor's visit with prescriptions will cost you hundreds of dollars. Have a good long talk with your boyfriend about this, and I'm sure you will come up with the right solution. The sites below can help if you will need to apply for individual health insurance.

That question has no meaning here--too many variables are left out. Your best bet is to know WHERE you will live, what you want for coverage, then look at a site like this and see what YOUR actual choices are. http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

How does the health insurance work in the UK

How does the health insurance work in the UK?
Is there a government health insurance for every employee in the UK? How much do you pay per year? Is it deducted from your paycheck? Can you get additional health insurance? Are vision and dental usually included as a benefit from your employer? I am moving to the UK and would like to know a bit more about what to expect. Thank you!

The NHS (National Health Service) is either free or very cheap: the idea is that everyone can use it. Although the UK is a wealthy country, the NHS has many issues: if you have an accident, you could find yourself waiting for much longer than you expect to get surgery or an examination. There are lots of delays and some misdiagnosises, but the doctors are very good, and carry out very complex surgeries very efficiently. If you can afford it, there is private insurance, and different clinics range in insurance price, and there is travel insurance. I'm only 15 so I'm still not entirely sure how it works, but this is a basic overview. Hope this helps.
2 :
Health care is free (well it's paid for through your income tax). The waiting lists for some operations and consultations with specialists can be very long. So if you are lucky enough to work for a large company, they sometimes offer private health policies. (Bupa is the largest). I very much doubt you will find a national health dentist (government one) they are rare as hen's teeth. So your dentistry will almost certainly be private and quite expensive.
3 :
You get all healthcare free on the NHS apart from dentistry and opticians which you pay fro as you go along(free for under 16's and over 65's). It has nothing to do with your employer.

Do you have to have health insurance when entering the Peace Corps

Do you have to have health insurance when entering the Peace Corps?
Do you have to have health insurance BEFORE entering and if you take their insurance for the Peace Corps, when does coverage begin? So when am I covered? Will I be covered as soon as I am accepted or as soon as I step foot onto foreign soil?

I KIND OF THOUGHT THAT "MEDICAL TREATMENT" WAS PART OF THE "BENEFITS PACKAGE" WHICH OUR "UNCLE SAMMY" PROVIDED WITH PEACE CORP SERVICE!!!SEE: <www.peacecorps.gov> Peace Corps Fighting hunger, disease, poverty, and lack of opportunity.www.peacecorps.gov - 46k - Cached - More from this site
2 :
Peace Corps requires a physical exam and medical clearances before they accept you in the Peace Corps. As a volunteer, all medical treatments and checkups are provided by Peace Corps so no health insurance is required.. threre is a cobra that kicks in when you leave Peace Corps that covers during any extended travel time when returning to the states and to cover the gap until you get a job.

How do health insurance deductibles work

How do health insurance deductibles work?
Basically, I'm looking to get new health insurance (my work insurance blows) and I have a choice between one that is $180 per month but with a 1,000 deductible and one that is $480 and has no deductible.

You need to speak with an insurance councellor regarding health ins. I just went through that myself. It takes some explaining and investigation as they are not all the same. bettyk
2 :
You pay the first $1K medical bills. Your insurance kicks in after the initial $1K, not at 100%, but based on whatever your insurance plan/contract says, usually it's 80/20, meaning insurance picks up 80% and you pick up 20% of the bill up to your annual deductible limit. Anything after that annual deductible limit, insurance will pick up 100%.
3 :
John's answer is correct but also look for something called a "stop loss limit". This limit is the most you will have to pay total out-of-pocket in any given year, including the 20% coinsurance and $1K deductible.
4 :
Its easy to compute 180 x 12 = 2160 vs 480 x 12 = 5760. As the deductible is only 1,000 and the premium difference is 3,600. or an extra of 300 per month. Mathematically if nothing happens to you for the next 3.5 months and you already have 1,000 in your bank account to cover the dedutible. If you don't fore see any claims for the next 3-4 months you should take the $180 per month plan. Also insurance companies will impose a 30 days waiting period and 120 days to 12 months exclusion period for pre-existing condition. Technically if you opt for $ 480 plan you may not get protection immediately. as it is normal for insurance company to impose waiting period and certain exclusions. Ask your agent to compare for you
5 :
Well, the deductible is how much you pay of covered services, BEFORE the insurance kicks in. So, you pay for the first 5-6 doctor visits, or the first couple of emergency room visits, or the first broken arm, etc, whatever adds up to $1,000, BEFORE the insurance pays one dime. If you don't see the doctor often, you'll be ahead of the game in three months.
6 :
A deductible is the amount that you have to shell out before the company picks up the tab. NEVER pay a provider up front - ALWAYS have the insurance billed first. If you use a participating provider, you'll pay a LOT less than if you paid first. Reason is: participating providers accept a discount from the plan. The second reason you want the insurance billed first is because that's how the deductible is tracked. That said, basically you want to have the least out of pocket. If you're a healthy adult with no children, who doesn't use the insurance often, go with the cheaper premium and the deductible - you'll come out ahead financially. (If you don't use the insurance, you don't pay the deductible.) If you have any chronic condition, or young children - go with the $480 a month plan - it'll work out cheaper in the long run. Good luck!
7 :
If you are the type that doesn't use your insurance as much but you are paying for health insurance every month you should go with a company called Ameriplan visit the website and look over your options. With this plan you don't have to worry about deductilbes or co-pays.

How much health insurance coverage do I get as a military spouse

How much health insurance coverage do I get as a military spouse?
I am a newly married Air Force wife. I am currently enrolled for TriCare North Standard coverage for health insurance. Does anybody out there have TriCare North Standard coverage and know what the whole package is like? I heard that if i go to any military base medical facility, all my medical coverage would be free. What if I were to have a doctor's appointment off-base? Also, does this cover dental costs too? I am just trying to fully grasp what me insurance does and does not cover so I can be prepared in the future.

1 :
why not go on base and use the free health care.
2 :
Put in your info and see what exactly is covered. But basically anything you go to a military facility for is 100% covered. You need to have referrals to see civilian docs. Any questions call customer support, they are friendly and will answer all your questions. http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/ You can see the dental coverage on there as well. The dental is not that great for dependents.Make sure your hubby signed you up for it, this coverage is optional. Tri-Care is automatic.
3 :
In general the rule is off base appointments, Tricare usually covers 70-80% depending on what program you are currently under (Prime or Standard). There are specific things that are covered at different rates. A lot of things require you to get an approval first. Dental is actually a separate program called United Concordia that you enroll in separately. You are better off going to the base hospital's TRICARE office, or their web page. They have a booklet that lists what needs approval and what treatments are covered at what rates. There is also a deductible cap. For Standard it used to be 1000.00 in one year, I don't know if it has changed or not. This means that as you pay your 20% or so, once your cost reaches $1000.00 they pay 100%. There is also special prices for off post prescriptions. It used to be $3 for generic and $9 for name brand. This may have changed also. Bottom line, it is best to go to the web page or office to get that booklet.
4 :
what you need to do is call tricare or go on line and find out what Tircare North Standard covers, you wil have to choose between Prime or Standard, It will give a better understanding of your health coverage.
5 :
if you have Standard you have co pays and a deductable. only PRIME is completely free when seen on base/ In network Proividers. and using the base Pharmacy. to be seen off base it must be your assigned Primary Care Manager or your PCM must have referred you to a specialist. Dental is comepletly seperate has a monthly cost plus co pays of up to 80%. 2 cleanings( 6 months apart) and one exam and set of xrays are fully covered per year.
6 :
Register for Tricare PRIME. Once you are are in that system, you will not pay for any medical treatment. Ever. All treatment at a military treatment facility will be free. Emergency room visits/ambulance: free. Your prescriptions will be free. No co-pays, no deductibles, no monthly payments. NOTHING. If you need an appointment off-base, you contact your Primary Care Provider at the military treatment facility and ask for a referral. You need to enroll in Tricare PRIME. It's the best health coverage in the U.S, since you won't pay a dime.

Will my Health Insurance sue the father of my baby for pregnancy-related expenses

Will my Health Insurance sue the father of my baby for pregnancy-related expenses?
I am 7 months pregnant, and my partner and I are not married for complicated reasons and will not be married when the baby is born.
I recently heard that my insurance company (through my employer) might sue him for medical expenses related to the pregnancy (he doesn't have health insurance). Is this true? Has this happened to any of you?
Insurance - 6 Answers

1 :
No it is not true. What grounds would they have to sue him? Your pregnancy is not his doing alone.
2 :
huh I don't think so. That sounds pretty goofy. First of all it's your medical care. Second, even if somehow they thought a claim should be under his status, they'd go after his benefit from an insurance company, not simply go after him for reimbursement from an uninsured person
3 :
Nope. If your insurance was Medicaid, welfare insurance, then yes, they would go after him. If you were uninsured, and an immigrant, and he was your sponsor, yes, they would go after him. But your private health insurer will NOT.
4 :
No. The health insurance company you have through your employer will not sue your boyfriend for medical expenses related to the pregnancy. All of the prenatal care is considered your medical expense, not the baby's. And, of course, your own insurance policy is going to cover your own medical expenses. (As long as maternity is covered on your policy, of course.) The delivery and hospital charges should be considered under your policy too. Presuming that you plan to add the baby to your medical coverage at work, you'll want to complete the necessary paperwork with your employer within 31 days of the baby's birth.
5 :
Hello there, No, they won't sue your partner for the pregnancy related expenses. Because you're going to add the baby onto your policy after it's born, your policy is responsible to pay for the coverage. If he doesn't have coverage, there is really no where to get money from him. Thanks, Kathy K www.premiumwatchdog.com

What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with

What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?
I am recently out of the military and need to purchase an individual health ins policy. However, I am not sure which ones are the best. I am a student, do they offer any good student policies? Also, is the SGLI to VGLI conversion a good change to make? If not, which is better term or whole life insurance policies?

1 :
You will not get a good answer concerning the health insurance here because companies and the plans within the companies vary by state. You'll want to visit a local independent agent who knows the market in your area and can find the best plan for your situation. Do not try to do this on the internet unless you have the time it will take to compare nearly 1000 plans. The agent can figure the best plan in an hour or two and they don't charge anything for the service. The independent agent also can help with the life insurance. Generally speaking, the term policy is best for most people.
2 :
OK, you're talking different horses here. For health insurance, what is best? Lowest monthly premium? Least out of pocket costs when you visit the doctor? In either case, if you don't want the student plan (major medical with massive deductibles, but low premium) you should go see a local, independent agent for a real health insurance policy, not one of those medical discount scams. For life insurance, what's the GOAL? Most people are best off with term - lowest premiums for the highest coverage. A FEW people have goals best met with whole life insurance. The key is, SET THE GOAL FIRST, then find the product that fits the need at the lowest cost. And if you buy both through a local agent, you won't get scammed.
3 :
Universal Life insurance would be the best. It gives you death benefits and living benefits. If you would like to know more email me emyli3do@yahoo.com i'll gladly help explain it to you.

What kind of health insurance plans do college and professional sports teams get

What kind of health insurance plans do college and professional sports teams get?
Do the athletes themselves have to make copayments and such as that for their own surgeries, doctor visits, etc. like the rest of us do? What about the coaches? Is it the same for them? If I can get some answers from anyone who has worked with health insurance, good!

I worked for a large insurance company that happened to provide benefits to 2 NFL teams and 1 MLB team. However, the players themselves were not covered by the "team" policy - I think that the NFL player's union coordinates the benefit plan for the actual players and their families.
(like how other large unions coordinate benefit plans for union members) The coverage we provided was for employees of the organizations who would not have been members of the players union, and also - in the case of the baseball team - the minor league players. But, in general, the sports teams that we covered (minus the players) had better than average benefits, compared to some of the other companies who had coverage through us. I'd suspect that the players have pretty good coverage too, because job performance is so closely related to their health.
2 :
Professional athletes can't get a health insurance policy. Too many injuries. They're usually either self insured, or have "benefits" provided by the team owner. School athletes will have health insurance through their parents policies through the employers - or can buy into the group athletic accident policy at the school. Coaches are employees - covered by workers comp, for their injuries that are work related (like getting tackled by a player). They'd have a health policy similar to everyone else's.
