Congress has extended health insurance benefits for the unemployed

Congress has extended health insurance benefits for the unemployed?
Wouldn't it be simpler just to have Obama's health care reform so if you lose your job you're covered?
Do you realize how hard it is to get health insurance right now if you lose your job and COBRA doesn't cover you anymore?

Unfortunately, the health care bill(which is still Congresses' and not Obama's) does not really provide anything for those circumstances. The Senate Bill would simply require you to buy insurance anyway, whether you could afford it or not, while the House bill has a public option but is so complicated you might never find out how to get it. Yes, it would be much easier to have national health insurance available, but you won't get it from either bill or the compromise between them.

Yes, employers can pretty much do whatever they choice as far as how much benefits that they provide. With the cost of everything going up, employers are considering cost, and they are making employees pay for some of the cost of their medical benefits. Many, many, companies are following the same trend. With a lot of people out of work, you have to consider the fact that you are employed, and go ahead a pay the cost of the medical. You can always decide to look for another job, but you won't find too many companies that provide medical 100%.
2 :
Sorry I dont know but just wanted to say I feel sorry for you, 5 years and now they`re going to add on an extra 100+ to your bills every month. You have my sympathy!
3 :
HELLO PROBABLY WITH PROPER NOTIFICATION BUT WHAT THEY CAN'T DO IS INSIST YOU HAVE IT, WERE YOU NOTIFIED ABOUT THEIR INTENTIONS AND GIVEN AN OPTION TO OPT OUT IF YOU DIDN'T WANT TO PAY FOR IT. CHECK WITH LOCAL CITIZENS ADVICE
4 :
Yes, they can, as long as the same rules apply to all employees.
5 :
Yes. They are not required to pay ANY benefits coverage for you at all, or even provide you access.
6 :
Yes, employers are not required to pay any or all of an employee's health insurance benefits. However, you may have a case against the employer if you have some form of written documentation (such as an employment contract) where the employer states that they will provide health insurance benefits for you for a certain period of time. Either way, individual health insurance is much cheaper than group health insurance so it can pay off to shop around. Be sure and compare quotes from reputable companies in order to find a good policy for a cheap price. Here is some more information on finding cheap health insurance:

How should the young and healthy self-employed deal with health insurance

How should the young and healthy self-employed deal with health insurance?
How does one search for and evaluate health insurance policies if s/he is young (20s) and self-employed.
What would it cost per month? What are the major points to be considered when selecting insurance?

You need a trusted adviser to help you through the process of purchasing health insurance so that you understand what you are purchasing. Ultimately, you are the one who determines the affordability of your health insurance plan by deciding how much you will participate in sharing the cost of your health care with your insurance company. You decide what the right balance is between affordability and policy benefits. If you choose a plan that covers everything i.e. doctors office visits, prescription drugs, preventative health benefits, maternity coverage as well as low deductibles, low co-pays and optional vision and dental benefits your monthly premiums will be significant. On the other hand because you are young, healthy and don't often use the health care system you could consider a plan that covers only the major health catastrophe. If that is too scary consider a plan with a higher in hospital deductible, higher co-pays for doctor's office visits and perhaps not cover prescription drugs.. Either of these approaches will result in a lower monthly premium. You then can use the monthly premium savings to pay for the occasional doctor visit or prescription and still come out ahead. Check with the agent that writes your home or auto insurance he/she can provide you a health insurance proposal that takes into account your budget and health status. They can answer questions as to what is and is not covered by the policy, explain deductibles and co-pays and show you the hospitals and doctors that participate in the network. Ask the agent about Health Savings Accounts. A HSA may be right for you. Some are going to suggest you go to their web site so that they earn a few pennies on a "click through". Some may suggest going on line to get a quote but you probably already know that there is much more to health insurance than price. Some might even "pitch" a discount plan that is not insurance at all. Use the Internet to educate yourself but use an agent to purchase the coverage.
2 :
Seek out an insurance broker that handles individual health insurance plans. Discuss the options available and get quotes. Then you can make an informed choice.
3 :
What it costs, depends on what coverage you buy. Maternity costs extra - a LOT extra. A basic, high deductible, major medical plan, if you're healthy with nothing wrong, will probably cost a 20 year old less than $100 a month. A good low/no deductible plan with maternity, about $500 a month. You probably should sit down with a local agent, who can help you pick the best plan for YOU.
4 :
First thing she want to do is find a broker in her state by searching for "(your state) health insurance broker" and they'll be able to help. The fact that she's self-employed has nothing to do with the equation.
5 :
Common situation you met like many other people,be patient, and check the resource here http://www.HealthInsuranceIdeas.info i found useful.
6 :
healthplans.bebto.com - my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.
7 :
You want to find an agent you trust. They will search all health insurance companies in the state for a plan that is best suited for your needs. They should be willing to take the time to understand your needs and goals. The market is changing so fast it is helpful to have someone who is educated in the laws and changing products. There is no additional commission paid when you use a broker. If they are charging you one get a new agent! Commissions are built into the insurance.
8 :
Work with an independent agent based in your state that will compare several companies/plans. Also consider a HSA compatible plan that will give you lower premiums and the opportunity to better control your costs over time. Stay away from limited benefit or discount plans.

How can I get affordable health insurance

How can I get affordable health insurance?
I'm 19, in good health, not pregnant nor do I already have a child. I was told by the state that I have to either be under 18 or have a child to get Medicare. My job does not offer insurance. What can I do? I'm on a very low income, and can't afford very much, but I am willing to pay something.

The problem is health insurance is not affordable. Call your local health department or department of health and human resources office for information about possible tips on how to receive health care for low income people. Check your yellow pages for free clinics. It will be very expensive for you to buy health insurance.
2 :
In my area, since you are healthy you would be able to get an individual policy for $50 to $220 per month depending upon deductible and other benefits. If you want a plan with limited doctor visits the premium will be less. If you want maternity coverage figure on around $300 more per month. You should visit your local independent agent. This person knows the market in your area and can find the right policy for your situation. They don't charge for the service.
3 :
Your best option may be to get discount health benefits. You can check out Ameriplan, which is very affordable. Here is the website http://www.YourSimpleCard.com. On the left side you will see Ameriplan Health. Click there to find out about their health benefits, They also offer dental, prescription, chiropractic and vision benefits, which are included free in their health plan or they can be purchased separately. I hope that helps.
4 :
Look into a policy that has Dr. office copays, with a high deductible ($2500-$5000) This would allow you to go to the Dr when you need too and still have some protection if you were to have a major health issue. If you don't go to the doctor very often you might even consider a plan that limits the number of doctor office visits. If you are in the state of Texas try running a quote from http://www.texashealthquote.com

What are my options for health insurance while I'm traveling long-term and cheap

What are my options for health insurance while I'm traveling long-term and cheap?
I've found a few ideas for cheap travel, including working as delivery crew on yachts for transportation, and WWOOFing, working on organic farms for room and board. It looks like I can travel for awhile using these and other methods. But my main concern is carrying health insurance during the travels.
What are my options? Is it possible to get European Union healthcare while working over there?

What do I look for when reviewing new health insurance programs?
I'm a returning student into the nursing program and have plans to get health insurance through my school.I'm 21 now and will be getting covered on my own, without the parents help. There's so much information I don't know where to start to review Pearce & Pearce health insurance that my school provides.

Annual cost of Policy. Amount of deductible and copay List of doctors covered. Annual checkups covered?
3 :
If you are generally healthy, don't take or need prescriptions or ongoing care, you will save money by taking out a larger deductible plan. You just need to make sure you have savings set aside to cover the remaining balance of the deductible, should worse come to worse. Make sure the plan has a doctor copay that you can afford. I wouldn't recommend a high deductible plan that does not have a copay. The site below can assist in working out the plan and deductible you should choose.
4 :
I would look at what they cover, since your healthly you don't need everything under they sun. Make sure that you don't drop your coverage now, otherwise you can get hit with pre-existing! Look at cost, coverage, out of pocket cost. Make sure that they offer Well Care so that your annual checkups are free! (They cost around $500 each year)
5 :
Windy - Before "signing on" to the plan at school, get a few quotes to see what's available on your own (that is, with an individual policy). That way, it won't matter whether you're a student, full time or part time, or even taking some time off, etc. (it won't depend on you remaining a student to keep the coverage). Once you have a few sample rates (see below for some links to get prices) you'll then be better able to compare the school's offering to what you can get elsewhere & see which is the better plan for you. Here's a few additional tips: 1. Don't buy more coverage than you think you're likely to use. Plans with lots of really great benefits (low deductible, doctor & drug copays, routine checkup benefits, etc.) are really nice, but all that will raise the cost. Are you looking for health "insurance" or "health care financing?" The point of "insurance" is to help you pay for something you can't handle yourself, like an expensive surgery ($50,000+) or radiation/chemotherapy, etc., etc. (Does your auto insurance pay for routine service, like oil changes, new tires, or a brake job?) 2. Even if you buy a plan with a big deductible ($2,500 - 5,000) you'll still find plenty of plans that will still include doctor & drug copays. 3. You may want to contact a local broker near you who specializes in health insurance (see NAHU.org below). 4. Remember: your monthly premium is a fixed cost you'll have to pay, while the actual health insurance benefits are items you'll face ONLY if you have some health care. Keep your fixed costs down by considering a higher deductible plan. 5. Finally, stick with the "brand name" companies, like Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, etc There are a lot of plans around that look good, but when crunch time comes for the big claim, there's no such thing as a "free lunch." Don't gamble with something that might be this critical. Hope this helps a bit!
6 :
Most will charge you co-pay so if you have frequent doctor visits, always make sure you check the one with the cheapest co-pay. Usually they have annual fees so watch out for that. I hate hidden fees so what I do is I look online to check for reviews. The last thing you want to do is pay over hundreds of dollars on hidden fees.
7 :
You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - healthplans.my-age.net

What makes you think you will keep your current health insurance WITHOUT the reform bill

What makes you think you will keep your current health insurance WITHOUT the reform bill?
Republicans keep saying that the health care bill will take away the health insurance they are happy with. But I've had coverage through my employers and I've still had to change health insurance plans 7 times in the past 8 years!
This was due to a combination of changing jobs or having my employer change to a less expensive (to them) plan. Why do Republicans act like we have a stable system now?

Better then Obummer,,,,,,,I have had my Kaiser Plan for 40 years now with several different employers, and I love it. So that cancels out your problem, and Republicans can act like we have a stable system again.
2 :
The fact that IM PAYING FOR IT it's called capitalism FYI: there are 1300 insurance companies in America 60% are ALREADY nonprofit we have enough choice
3 :
You certainly won't keep it WITH health care "reform". So I will take the lesser of two evils and keep what we have now. So much for "change"
4 :
i hope the reform does go through. as of now, i do not have insurance when I am in the states (student currently living in the UK- yea NHS!) and anything is better than that.
5 :
No Republicans that I know of or hear of believe the status quo of our current health system is stable. We indeed do need reform; However, we do NOT want government to interfere with, run, or make rules and regulations on something they know little about. Even now they cannot agree of the cost. Their mistakes are very costly, and if you consider that Medicare is going bankrupt; social security is going bankrupt, the postal system is going bankrupt why in God's name do we want them meddling is something we can fix if we take government and politics out of it.
6 :
7 times in 8 years? LOL. And what are you going to do when the govt can (and generally does) change the laws every year, and the healthcare czar changes the regulations every quarter, and your costs quadruple? Why would you expect the govt that brought you Amtrak, the Postal Service, Medicare, and is the cause of over 50% of every hospital bill you receive to "fix" what they broke? Are you in need of a brain transplant? You aren't gonna get it (or anything else) from o-bummer-care unless they decide they want you to have one. You have no say in the matter. Unless you put a stop to this nonsense immediately by writing your Senators & Rep and oppose govt intervention in health care. Have you wondered why more than half a million Americans go abroad each year for medical care - even if they have insurance? Superior medical care is available for as little as 18% of US costs in places like Mexico, Dominican Republic, Panama (Johns Hopkins medical center, no less!), Singapore, India, Thailand, etc. Better care can cost less than your deductible + copay!
7 :
We are quickly approaching the point where employers will not be able to offer private insurance for their employees. It is already at the point where some employers are shelling out more for health insurance for an employee than they are paying in wages! Why people do not want the safety net of universal healthcare for all is beyond me. They will find themselves sadly mistaken when their private insurance is abolished by their employer. Much the same way as pensions, something American workers used to depend on, have disappeared.
8 :
I have had the same problem. Every September, my husband's company has changed insurance companies and it is usually to a company that is less expensive to them, but has less coverage for us as a family. This year though, they did not change companies, but the premiums went up by more than $100 per month. On top of that, they don't cover the medical supplies that I need for every day living. I do not qualify for Medicaid although I am unable to work, but if I did, Medicaid would cover the supplies. Between the co-pays, deductibles and supplies not covered, I am shelling out over $300 per month and that isn't including the premiums that come out of his paycheck. I have to believe that if the heath care reform is passed, and we are taxed on such a plan, the taxes would be lower than what I am paying now. I have started looking for some of the supplies I need on ebay to try and find them at a cheaper rate. To me, that is just sad.
9 :
Very good point! The Health Care Insurance system in the US is broken and must be fixed! Repube NeoCon right-wingers are part of the problem, instead of the solution and should be ignored if they cannot get on board with the President's Health Care Reform Bill!
