Know where to get affordable health insurance for student and family

Know where to get affordable health insurance for student and family?
I am a full time student, married with three kids. My husband is self employed and I am wanting to work part time so I can study.
Does anyone know where to get affordable health insurance? My college doesn't offer health insurance and neither one of us will be able to get it through an employer.

None I know of are affordable but you can look into Healthy Families for your kids, only. Depending on your income, your kids could qualify for $9-$30/mo/kid

Depends what you refer to as affordable. You can get a major medical plan, with high deductable, which has office visits for a family inexpensive, which still could be $200-$400 per month. The other possible option is a savings health plan, I believe you can get regular doctor visits but like the major medical a large amount would have to come out of your pocket if you needed to get to the hospital. One more thought, there is insurance for kids, I would have to ask a buddy of mine what the name of it is that can cover the kids only individually. This is about $40 -$60 per month depending on medical. Hope this helps.

~~If you are in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, or Hawaii, you can great coverage, with very reasonable rates through Costco Health Insurance and they have a small business plan which requires no preexisting conditions. Call 1-800-611-9057 at ext 2206. This reaches Lisa which is the rep we used and she was excellent and getting us an excellent package. One requirement is you have to be an Executive Member (higher yearly cost, but you always get 2% back on all your purchases, so we end up making money on ours. It also offers dental with it too. We have been so happy with our policy! Hopefully you live in one of these states. Best of luck!~~

If you are in college, you may want to check again to see if there is a health insurance program that is written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable. For your children, United Healthcare offers "kids only" health insurance plans that provide children's coverage for sickness and accidents. Their plans are written through school districts and many private K12 schools throughout the US. Their health plan is designed to be affordable, at just $98 every 2 months. Check out www.k12studentinsurance.com to see if your child's school district (or private school) is participating. Click on the "Plans & Pricing" tab, enter the district name or private school name and the state in the search box and review the plans.
