What happens to Altzheimers patients who have no health insurance

What happens to Altzheimers patients who have no health insurance?
The disease runs in my family and I cannot get health insurance and I'm worried about what happens when you have no insurance to cover this.

Don't worry, just forget about it.

Initially, you pay the medical bills, yourself. Next, as the disease gets worse and you lose the ability to manage your own finances, someone else takes over and uses your money to pay the medical bills. Eventually, all your money is used, and you go on medicaid. Finally, you die.

If the disease occurs after age 65, you will be eligible for medicare. If it the disease occurs before that you would probably be eligible for disability medicare. Beginning in 2014, all Americans will be required to carry health insurance. Just like you are currently required to have car insurance. At that time, you will be eligible for at the very least the high risk plan. It still may be cost prohibitive for you.

Nothing because you would need a long term care insurance policy to cover the type of care an Alzheimer's patient would need. Health insurance doesn't cover that type of care.

Hang in..soon Insurance companies will have to cover the disease as there will be untold numbers of 'baby boomers' shuffling inexorably toward the long goodbye.;so pre-existing conditions will be the savior of us all...as Tiny Tim famously said, "God bless us,everyone" !

if you end up in nursing care, they can put a lien on your home and use the value to pay your bills. or someone in your family will be burdened with paying for your care. better start taking your fish oil!

Why can't you get health insurance? Most employers offer it, and it's not underwritten when you get it through your employer. When you have no insurance to cover this, then you pay all your own bills. When you're broke, you apply for Medicaid, welfare health insurance. Keep in mind, the VAST majority of the bills for Alzheimers patients, is nursing home coverage, which isn't covered under health insurance, ANYWAY. It's covered under Long Term Care insurance.
