Do you know the difference between Health Care and Health Insurance

Do you know the difference between Health Care and Health Insurance?
The bill that past did nothing to provide or gaurantee heathcare as a right to everyone. What it did is mandate you buy health insurance. Everyone seems to think it was about health care, it was not. Here are the wiki definitions of each: Health care, or healthcare, is the treatment and management of illness, and the preservation of health through services offered by the medical, dental, complementary and alternative medicine, pharmaceutical, clinical sciences (in vitro diagnostics), nursing, and allied health professions Health insurance like other forms of insurance is a form of collectivism by means of which people collectively pool their risk, in this case the risk of incurring medical expenses. The collective is usually publicly owned or else is organized on a non-profit basis for the members of the pool, though in some countries health insurance pools may also be managed by for-profit companies

I know and it sucks.
2 :
Yes. Why they keep calling this debate health "care" is beyond me.
3 :
WE do... Obama does not.
4 :
Of course. But one does affect the other.
5 :
well, the bill creates some gov. programs to help poorer people buy insurance... which will ease their access to health care... and it will also not let insurance companies drop people as easily, which should help people get better health care when sick... but it doesn't deal directly with health care, from what I understand...
6 :
I do but every time I try to tell me that the bill didn't actually address health-care they seem surprised and often disagree.. The bill isn't about providing the poor with insurance. We already have medicaid and dozens of state programs to address this need. This was about the government telling me that I must, under the threat of civil penalty, buy health insurance. A power grab and payback to the insurance companies and nothing more..
7 :
Yes, and I have been arguing that point from day 1. That this whole thing has nothing to do with care it has everything to do with insurance. While they do go together on some level, the two are actually mutually exclusive.
8 :
I know. We wanted universal health care. Thats what we sent Obama to office for (with overwhelming numbers i might add.) And it isn't what we got.
9 :
No, it was about providing health insurance to practically everyone in the US. Anyone that falls within or under 133% of the poverty line will get help. All businesses will be required to offer health insurance to its employees and all health care companies will be unable to decline coverage to a person with a preexisting condition. You will have to pay for health coverage if you have a job, yes. Did you expect to get it for free? Not going to happen. If you are under the age of 26, you are covered through your parents' coverage, used to be 23... It is a somewhat good move, but somewhat bad. I think it will be ok.

3/21/2010 a very sad day for America...God Help Us!!
11 :
Its is sleight of hand. The politicians took the approach that if you have to have health insurance like automotive and property insurance then the prices and amounts of bills and payouts will go down. Automotive went down cause it was like an equal share of the money Geico pays Safeway and etc etc. Where as in a hospital it is people with insurance verses the prices of the hospital. Medical / Health Care will always be a business. People saw the potential for the services and the constant need for the equipment as well as the services and the skills. It is simple supply verses demand. The company can charge $5 for a bandage wrap you can buy for $3 and the hospital charges you $12-$15 for teh same bandage to make up on costs of people not paying their own bills. Also the hospital has a mark up on services to cover the doctors salary who wants to pay off his school loans and live in a big house cause everyone associates doctors with money money money. Also people have gotten lazy and money thirsty so they go to hospitals and sue doctors every chance they get so now the hospitals have to cover the high insurance rates of mal practice. States that have put a high cap limit on law suits have seen drastic cut in cases of mal practice.
12 :
Everyone wants some free ice. Got news for ya, we pay for our health care one way or another. The way it works now: IF you would like to pay for your health care out of pocket, be my guest, it will only cost you double. There is a reason for that, if the doctor only charges you what insurance will pay, the insurance companies will say "since that is what you normally charge". "we will only pay you half of that". BTW, Obama has been calling it "insurance reform" for some time now.

Americans are exposed to seven times more radiation from diagnostic scans than they were in 1980. Experts are saying that doctors are overusing the tests for profit and raising health risks for patients. The findings add to already mounting evidence that doctors are ordering too many diagnostic tests, driving up the cost of health care in the United States and potentially harming patients. Diagnostic scans can give doctors valuable information, but some doctors fear too much radiation exposure may cause cancer, especially in younger people. However, imaging technology has created a financial incentive for some doctors to cash in -- by referring patients to get imaging tests on equipment in their own practices.

How do I find out if my health insurance will cover laser therapy to quit smoking

How do I find out if my health insurance will cover laser therapy to quit smoking?
OK I am 20 yrs old still under my mom's health insurance. I have been smoking since I was 16. Now I want to quit. I have a friend that did laser therapy to quit and she says it the greatest thing she ever did.
I want to know does laser therapy actually work and I don't know how to figure out if the health insurance will cover laser therapy to quit smoking.

Call the health insurance company and ask. I bet they are going to say no though because their are other ways to quit that don't cost them or you money. It's not exactly a "life saving" surgery. I would imagine its in the same category as cosmetic surgery, its optional and they won't cover it.
2 :
Have your mother call her insurance company and ask. That's how to find out, if it's not spelled out in any booklets she received that explained what was covered and what was not. Sometimes insurance covers smoking cessation, sometimes not. I've not heard of a laser procedure so can't comment on your chances of having that covered or not.
3 :
Health insurance does cover treatment for smoking cessation - but it rarely covers experimental methods. Some plans cover certain alternative-type therapies, while others do not. Laser therapy for smoking cessation relies on accupressure points. Accupressure is an alternative treatment (meaning, not standard Western medicine). However, many insurance companies cover acupuncture and acupressure. If it is considered experimental, your company likely won't cover it. However, rather than guessing or even asking a customer service representative, your best bet would be to request a pre-authorization review. Also ask the place that does the laser therapy if insurance commonly covers it. They will know just what information to send your insurance company so it can be approved. And if they can't get insurance to pay for it, they'll be able to tell you that, too.
4 :
I really doubt they cover it. Laser therapy is more like a cosmetic surgery. You don't really need it, there are other ways to quit smoking.

How do I get health insurance for my dog

How do I get health insurance for my dog?
I'm looking into buying a dog and checking out different pet health insurance agencies. Is it worth it? How much does it usually cost for a healthy puppy/dog?

When you first get a dog, you will probably be told by several people that you need to buy dog pet insurance. However you may not be at all clear as to exactly why you need it, especially if you haven’t owned a dog before and are aware of the situation. The cost varies with the type of dog and the age, shop around but i know my dog insurance policy has had a battering in the last two years and they paid out over two thousand pounds , thank god for my policy! LOL If there is one reason for having dog pet insurance that you had already thought of, it is probably health insurance. That is, insurance to cover your vet’s bills if your dog is sick, or injured in an accident. It’s most unlikely that your dog will go through his whole life without a single disease or injury, and nowadays just one treatment can cost literally thousands of pounds. Dog pet insurance policies vary enormously as to what level of cover they provide for vet treatment, so you need to compare them carefully and see what best meets your needs. However, there are several other reasons why it is important to take out dog pet insurance. Some of these may not have occurred to you if you haven’t had a dog before. • If your dog causes a motor accident, for instance by running out into the road, you will need insurance to cover you for legal advice and compensation payment. You are responsible for what your dog does, so the other party will sue you. If a serious injury is involved, the compensation could be huge. • Similarly, you can be sued if your dog bites someone, e.g. a postal or other delivery worker, or a neighbour. Of course, you need to keep your dog under control and train him not to bite people, as it would also result in him being put down. • If you have to be hospitalised and there is nobody to care for your dog, your dog pet insurance can pay for boarding kennels (if you have a policy that specifically includes this). The policy won’t pay for putting your dog into kennels while you go on holiday! However, if you have booked a holiday and your dog is sick or injured at the last minute, preventing you from going, you can have a policy that covers the cost of cancelling your holiday. • If your dog is lost or stolen, dog pet insurance can pay for advertising and rewards. Some policies will also cover replacement – some will even pay for bereavement counselling! • If your dog is hard to control, is disobedient or has other behaviour problems, a dog pet insurance policy can pay for advice and help from a dog training expert or a dog behaviour therapist. Of course, many of these things may never happen – and you certainly hope they won’t. But sometimes they do, and it’s a good idea to consider right at the outset how you would cope if any of these things did happen. There are a number of good reasons for having dog pet insurance, but the most important one of all is – peace of mind.

I just saw this on the news, They said it wasnt worth it.But you can find out from your vet where to get it.
3 :
I believe it IS worth it, if you have a puppy for instance, some insurances cover the costs of vaccines and help with the spay/neuter cost as well. Some companies cover for accidents, bites/stings etc. I have seen the cost for the top of the line insurance for dogs 53.00 per month (I currently have this insurance for my 4 month old Lab) Ask your Vet or call an insurance company near you.

How does the new health care reform bill being passed effect my existing health insurance

How does the new health care reform bill being passed effect my existing health insurance?
I already have health insurance. I have "Cover Florida Plan II" through Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Will I just keep paying for my insurance like nothing happened? I am happy with my insurance and I don't plan on changing it, unless I have to for some reason.

It will stay the same for the time being. As soon as the insurance companies are mandated to accept pre-existing conditions the premium will drastically increase. This will happen sometime this year. Most of the rest of the bill, except for the new taxes, won't take effect until 2014 so little else will change until then.

What is the best health insurance after separation from the military

What is the best health insurance after separation from the military?
What is the best health insurance after separation from the military? I am pretty healthy, and for now I'm looking to stay cheap and just cover all the bases. I'm not married, but adding a spouse eventually is important.

Check out clarkhoward.com. He has two insurances for his pick as best, one of which is just for veterans.

Actually, it depends on what you can afford and what your employer has available. It ain't cheap! After getting back from Iraq in 2005, I was lay ed off my job because of out sourcing. Since then, I have been using the VA Medical center, and have been happy with the way they have treated me. How ever, it would be nice to have regular employment and pay for it myself. My advise? Stay in!
3 :
Boy, i wish i had the best answer for you. I am going through the same thing you are. My husband had to go back to school so that we could get some good insurance. Right now we are recieving State Medicaid and they are going us all kinds of trouble. They all tring to tell us that my husbands G.I. bill is income!!! Can you beleive it! Good luck finding something that works for your family. We all know how hard it is to find some decent medical insurance here in this country
4 :
If you are retiring - spend the $400 bucks or so for Tri-Care - its worth it.

How do I get health insurance in Canada if I am not yet a Permanent Resident qualifying for OHIP

How do I get health insurance in Canada if I am not yet a Permanent Resident qualifying for OHIP?
I am a US citizen living in Ontario waiting for my permanent residency to be approved. I would like to purchase health insurance to cover me for the time period until I am approved for the Ontario Health coverage. I don't see this period being more than a year. Are there any companies that offer health insurance to non-Canadian permanent resident in the immigration process? I also do not yet have a SIN number. I am documented and have over 5 months left on my 6 month visitor allowance. Everything is in legal standing. I have already submitted for permanent residency and have paid fees. What companies offer private insurance to non-residents?

If you are in Canada legally you are eligible for health care after 3 months.
2 :
in some cases ohip is granted before PR is finalized, my daughter and i got it before but we had been living in Canada for a few years before we applied to immigrate
3 :
You buy private health insurance. You are usually expected to wait outside Canada for a visa and tourists have to be out after six months. Are you legal in Canada.

What kind of health insurance should I get for my family

What kind of health insurance should I get for my family?
The health insurance i get from my job sucks, I'm paying $500 out of pocket per month. My wife and I are both young, barely go to the doctor if at all. The only reason I have insurance is for my 10-month old son's vaccinations and such.
There must be a better type of insurance for me to get, any recommendations?

Normally if you are "eligible" for group health insurance (via an employer) you can't purchase a direct payment plan from your local insurance company. Depending on your financial situation, you 'may' be able to get coverage for the kids through a state sponsored program for the child's vaccinations and other prevenative services.
2 :
My family has Cariten. I love it. My husbands appendix recently burst and spent a week in the hospital and we only have to pay around $300 bucks out of a $22,000 bill we racked up.
3 :
you should get somthing like washington health care. Its only 50 bucks a month but i dont know the web so find it on google
