What is the best type of health insurance for getting kids ready for school

What is the best type of health insurance for getting kids ready for school?
What is the best type of health insurance I can get to help my kids go to the doctor, get checkups and vaccines, and have them ready for school? Or like if they break their arm on the playground or something? Anything else I should be thinking of as to why I should get insurance for my kids before they go back to school? Sorry, lot of questions but I appreciate your help. Thanks

What have they had up until now for health insurance? They should have had insurance since birth, not just at age 5 for school. There is no "best insurance". It's all indicative of what you are willing, or can spend. There are free or low cost publicly funded state health plans if you're low income, that have their own stipulations and rules on where you go, what they pay for etc. In many states, the care is low to average at best. Then there are top notch and expensive private insurance plans. Does your employer off health care benefits? That's usually the way to go.
2 :
Many schools offer insurance when you enroll. ... Ask your school what is available and what it covers. The "best type of health insurance" will vary by family. If either parent's job offers insurance, look into that. If your income is low, there are government programs. Calling your local health department could also be a step in the right direction. My daughter had Medicaid to get caught up on shots and stuff before she entered school. Now that I have a better paying job, she has CHIP (very cheap insurance, because I still have a relatively low income.)

What is the point of a health insurance plan if you never met your deductible

What is the point of a health insurance plan if you never met your deductible?
I am 22 and applying for my first health insurance. I do not need much medical services, and want a low affordable premium.
However, when I look at sites such as Blue Cross, it seems that low premiums go with high deductibles. I don't think I would ever meet the yearly deductible, and thus, cannot get any health services covered. So what is the point of such a plan? Thanks.

its for what if scenarios. I never thought i'd be anywhere near my deductible on blue cross but i will be since im pregnant and have lots of appointments and will have hospital visits and baby visits etc. Its good for people who will need it or for what if situations.
2 :
The original purpose of health insurance was to cover catastrophic illnesses and accidents. It was not meant to be used for regular doctor visits or minor hospital stays. Then everything got out of hand and now people want 100% coverage, even on regular doctor visits.
3 :
I don't think that their is a point then. Try going with Blue Cross HMO or Blue Cross PPO. They are really good
4 :
The lower premiums often come with higher deductibles. The same also applies other forms of insurance, such as auto insurance. The high deductible plans are for those who don't have much in the way of medical needs or expenses. It is coverage that is there in case you need it. Lets say you are involved in a car accident, or other catastrophic event and end up in the intensive care unit for several days. After the deductible, you aren't responsible for the hundred of thousands of dollars that uninsured patients would face in similar situations. Depending on the insurance plan, you may have a copay or cost sharing, and the insurance will cover the rest. It beats being in debt for hundreds of thousands of dollars that you would face if you were uninsured. If you do choose a plan like this, look for a plan that may waive the deductible for preventive services such as physicals to make sure you are in good health. Honestly, I would choose a plan with better coverage, even though it would cost a little more. It is impossible to know what the future holds, and it is good to have coverage you can rely on.
5 :
That's a fair question and, to be honest, shows how "differently" people consider health insurance from, say auto or fire insurance. Here's the question for you to consider: Do you want health "insurance," or "health care financing?" "Insurance" helps you pay for unforeseen expenses that you can't handle yourself (like, say, that $87,000 hospital/surgical bill after the car wreck, etc.). "Health care financing," like anything else you usually finance, lets you "make payments" to buy things that you don't want to pay for all at once (like, say, that $2300 big screen HDTV). Here's a few tips: 1. Buy a plan with a big deductible ($2,500 - 5,000) to keep your cost down. REMEMBER: even with a big deductible you can still find plans with the things you like: doctor and drug copays. 2. Stick with the "brand name" companies, like Blue Cross, Humana, Aetna, etc. There are a lot of other plans that "look good" but, if or when you have that big claim, they'll vanish like an honest politician. 3. Talk to a broker who specializes. Visit NAHU.org (see below) to find one near you. NAHU is the professional association of brokers like me who specialize in health insurance. 4. Get you own quotes online. Visit my site (below) or go to Norvax.com to get prices. Hope this helps a bit!
6 :
What if! That means, say today you are hit by another car, taken to the hospital, require surgery...this will cost $25,000 oh did I forget to tell you the other driver responsible for the accident did not have insurance? If you think this and many more scenario's won't happen to you....think again.
7 :
If you want low premiums, then you have to have high deductibles. Insurance concepts is either you pay now, or pay later. Having insurance helps you prepare for the unexpected car accidents, sudden illness, sport injuries, etc. Everyone should have it. So if you cannot afford it now, then you have to get the high deductible plan. When you can afford it, then you have to upgrade or change the plan. It's better than nothing. Remember, pay now or pay later. But make sure you understand all your coverages when picking the right plan.

What is the best health insurance for a college student?
My mother recently changed jobs so i lost my health insurance. I've never actually looked into insurance because it was always already there for me (which was stupid of me not to do). Which is the best insurance to have in terms of coverage and cost? My school has blue cross blue shield... are they any good? I live in South Florida by the way.

Where do I get health insurance for my small business

Where do I get health insurance for my small business?
I only have 6 employees (including myself) right now. I wanted insurance for myself because as I get older, my body isn't getting stronger.
But now I've had a wide variety of health problems with my employees, and on some days I simply can't afford to be without them. Any advice from a small business owner with health insurance would help.

Well you can get small business health insurance from a wide variety of insurance companies. All you have to do is shop around. I think you meant where is the best place to get health insurance, and there is really no best answer. I recommend http://www.esmallbusinesshealthinsurance.com It is a website dedicated to, of course, small business health insurance. You can compare plans and rates directly from the company side by side. And with some of the companies, they offer customizable plans. Your best bet is to talk with an agent and see what can work for you.

The following site helps you customize an individual or small employer plan for health insurance including dental and vision if you want it. I have used it a couple of times and it worked out very well. http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi/Alliance?allid=Mis23170 Hope this helps!

What can a person do for health insurance when pregnant

What can a person do for health insurance when pregnant?
I was recently fired, and now I am pregnant. Since I now have a much lower income what are my options for cheaper or free health insurance? I know theirs medicaid I was wonder if theirs any other options. Can any one help me out? I am freaking out about my unborn child's health.

get on medicaid. go to ur local health department. And u can also, sign up for wic
2 :
Contact your local pregnancy center. They will be able to help you with your options as some programs may be state wide and specific to your area. Call 1-800-395-HELP and explain that you're looking to find out your insurance options because of your job. They will listen to you and be able to advise you on what you can do. The number is staffed 24/7 and their name is OptionLine and they are a U.S. wide pregnancy center number. All the best. :)
3 :
You can buy Cobra insurance for up to 18 months through your company HR dept. You could go to a low income community clinic or public health service where they will only charge you a nominal fee based on your income. If you are very low income and pregnant you might get Medicaid for pregnancy in your state. Check with your county social services.

What is the best type of health insurance for my wife and I during her pregnancy

What is the best type of health insurance for my wife and I during her pregnancy?
My wife is pregnant and we are looking for coverage while I am in-between jobs. We don’t qualify for access because my wife will make too much and COBRA is expensive but it is the only option that I seem to have because all other insurance companies say that pregnancy is a “pre-existing” condition.
Does anyone know of any temporary health insurance I could use? I’d also rather not get a discount plan.
Insurance - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
In most cases where your unemployed she could get state medical insurance for her, and any children. Suggest you check your local state website for income guidelines and assistance. WIC and other additional benefits may assist you while you get back on your feet.
2 :
You'd better stay with COBRA coverage if you can.
3 :
Unless you can get another employer based coverage, there is no other insurance that will take you. Group insurances cannot pre-exist pregnancy. Your other option is to contact your doctor and chosen hospital for cash rates for pregnancy and get insurance for all of you after the delivery. The down side is that you do not have coverage for complications, should they arise. Contact a local independant agent for a better selection of plans and premium rates.
4 :
Technically you have coverage as long as you have the COBRA "Option" usually you have 62 days to let the insurance company know that want to pick up the COBRA coverage. If during this time you need to use the insurance then you have to pay full price for COBRA but if you find a job offering group plans during that time you have received two months of coverage for "free" Individual coverage will not cover a female who is currently pregnant even if they could exclude the pregnancy (You wouldn't want that anyway) Find a Job with health insurance and take it even if it is not your ideal job or even in your field.
5 :
you can opt to only sign up your wife for cobra.. you will not get approved on ANY individual plans, because as you know pregnancy is pre-existing. however, if you get insurance through work, its not. otherwise you will need to pick something up through the state for her.
6 :
Cobra is your best bet. Now that she's pregnant, no health insurance company is going to insure her, PERIOD, even without maternity benefits. Except welfare health insurance - through your state CHIPS program, if you qualify.
7 :
You could apply for an individual health insurance plan on the open market (either temporary or permanent) if you are fairly healthy and find a much cheaper rate than the expensive COBRA group health insurance plan - however your wife will not be eligible for coverage until after the pregnancy. The best bet for your wife will be to either accept the COBRA health insurance offer or see if she is eligible for some form of State or County governmental assistance plan. One thing that you may want to do that I haven't seen anyone else mention is for you to personally decline the COBRA plan and purchase a regular individual health insurance plan on the open market for cheap (as long as you are healthy) and then have your wife stay on the COBRA plan until after the pregnancy. This way the cumulative premiums will be much lower with you on the individual plan and your wife on the COBRA plan than if you both were on the COBRA plan and on top of that they COBRA plan will cover your wife's pregnancy. Here is some more information on COBRA health insurance, maternity health insurance, and on finding a cheap health insurance plan:
8 :
Try this one - http://healthplans.my-age.net - My wife personally had their health insurance while being pregnant. It is affordable and has good coverage.
9 :
hi there, I hope my answers can give you some insight. Yes, i do agree that most insurance companies have this condition on their policies, however you can look at individual states to see whether you qualify for cheap insurance coverage. I only have health insurance. Is there any way to get work done on my teeth without dental insurance

I only have health insurance. Is there any way to get work done on my teeth without dental insurance?
My two front teeth feel extremely sensitive right now to the point that it stings. I do not have dental insurance, but I have complete health insurance. Because I'm not worried about my teeth's aesthetic issues, is there a way to get this billed at the hospital under my health insurance?

no.
2 :
try a dental school or dental clinic
3 :
I really doubt it. I would call your medical insurance company and ask them. Or I would encourage you to visit this site: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars since. From extractions, xrays, fillings...etc. All services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. hope this helps.
4 :
Yes you can do with cash payment. Talk to Dr.Bindra www.dentistryindia.com She is great help At least I went from Chicago to her.
5 :
You can't get it billed under your health insurance policy, but you can get dental work done without a dental insurance policy. I just did. :) It just costs a fortune without it since nothing is covered and dental work is a rip off, but I don't see why you can't get what you need done without it. I didn't have it because unless you need more than just cleanings every year, it's not worth it.
6 :
No medical insurance only pays for medically necessary dental treatment, which is very rare. You'd have to pay out of pocket at the dental office. Go slow, have a treatment plan done and do things over a period of time that is financially affordable for you. Dentistry, Like medical can be very expensive. You could look into financing, but thise plans charge a lot of interest. You could also look into getting a discount dental plan that could save you money on the dental, check out this site for more information. Their plans start at $14.95/mo and comes with dental vision chiropractic and prescription discounts.

3 :
It's dental insurance you need. Well actually if you get general anesthesia they will usually bill that to the medical insurance and the rest to dental. Regardless they might not pay as it would be pre-existing. You might be better off getting a low-cost, high-deductible HSA plan to cover against catastrophic illness, put money into your HSA and get a tax deduction, then use that money to pay for the oral surgery out of pocket. It will be much cheaper if you take local anesthesia instead of general.

How is the health care overhaul different from auto insurance

How is the health care overhaul different from auto insurance?
I'm not well versed in the world of politics, but I just read that there are 13 states that are going to sue because they claim it is unconstitutional for the government to mandate that we have health care. How can they require us to keep auto insurance then? Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's illegal to not have auto insurance; I don't see how that's different than health insurance. ah, good point, Chicagok - haha.

Driving a car is a choice.
3 :
Honey, please don't confuse the angry by highlighting their fallacies and hypocrisy.
4 :
So basically the government is “giving” us health care by forcing us to pay for it. Americans were hit with a similar swindle before in the form of mandatory car insurance. State after state forced their citizens to buy insurance because the politicians just couldn’t bare the thought of uninsured drivers running loose on the roads. The insurance companies gained hundreds of billions of dollars in premiums, and gouged the hell out of consumers charging outrageous rates while the politicians provided no oversight. Then, to cap this swindle off, the polticians allowed in millions of illegal aliens, who are driving around our streets and highways with no insurance, proving that the politicians never really cared about drivers being insured in the first place. It was all a gigantic swindle for the insurance companies.
5 :
So true Chicago! You have the choice to have a car. I mean, I guess you have the choice to live or not, but if your dead then why would you need health insurance in the first place. I am a very health 21 year old and I don't have health insurance right now, and I don't want it. I will be FORCED to buy it in 2014 and I'm not okay with it, but it doesn't matter what the people are or aren't okay with now. If you don't have it you will get fined no matter what. You may be able to get away with no insurance on your car for years without getting caught, but its a little harder to get away with health insurance when your tax man has to see the receipt of you paying for it. Pathetic.
6 :
purely a political statement. Federal social law trumps states rights. Isn't the right glad they didn't push tort reform through so that they can clog up the court system with these frivolous lawsuits? EDIT: To the person above: Problem with people like you who don't want insurance is that when you do use the health system, people who have insurance, like me, end up paying for your services with higher premiums and fees. Why should I have to pay for your poor choices? EDIT: To Ali. Your fearful speculation about premiums is unfounded as there is no indication in the legislation that says they will go up [although conservative talk radio has beaten that into you head pretty well]. But I know for a fact that a $500 a night stay in a semi-private room [the room only] is overinflated so that the uninsured are cared for.
7 :
The difference between auto insurance and health insurance is that for auto insurance, you have to own a car before you need to get 1. Second, you only need to get liability insurance, ie insurance in case you hit somebody or damage someone else property, the money will be set aside to pay for those damages. Thirdly, auto insurance are used only when something bad happens, ie unintended accidents. In the most likely case, you are never going to make a claim on auto insurance. Health-care insurance is totally different. Its not really insurance, it is prepaid health-care. You use it if you get a cold, flu, vaccinations, etc. With this new bill, you HAVE to buy prepaid health-care no matter what the cost is and no matter who you are. Even if the prepaid health-care cost a million dollars a year, you have to buy it, its illegal not to. All this bill does is to say that insurance companies cannot discriminate against pre-existing conditions. It does not prevent them from raising premiums to ridiculous levels. Normally, in a market, companies are unable to raise their prices too high because no one would buy them otherwise. Now, you have the government forcing everyone to buy them regardless. Why do I need to care about pre-existing conditions if I can raise my price to any amount and you HAVE to buy my product? Big difference. EDIT: To person above You shouldn't have to pay. But this bill makes you pay. Lets see what your attitude will be when your premium doubles or triples. The US constitution trumps ALL. EDIT: "Your fearful speculation about premiums is unfounded " Doesn't matter whether its unfounded or not or whether you believe it will or not. You cannot have something for nothing. Its not speculation, its just common sense. It will go up. When social security was passed, they said the same thing. Now social security is 10 trillion down the hole. The same with medicare, 30 trillion down the hole. Btw, I DON'T listen to conservative talk radio. Don't group me with them.
8 :
ha i'm young like all people who say "i don't need it, i'm healthy" haha that's the funniest thing ever. like for real. it's like i understand that i have felt the same way but then again you never know what could happen to you, car accident, develop asthma, break a arm, hecks you never know. again i'm not knocking peoples personal views and opinions here but lets be honest you never know what could happen. i'm just glad i can stay on my parents health insurance anyway even though i'm not in grad school at the moment. get real with yourself kinda sounds silly when you don't want to take care of yourself but like i said before (ha i sound a little condescending) i understand where you are coming from being forced is not cool but think about the topic of what is being discussed, your health.

How to get individual health insurance in US as a new immigrant

How to get individual health insurance in US as a new immigrant?

Most major US health insurance companies require a person to have lived in the US at least 6 months to 1 year. Your best bet will be to find a worldwide international travel health insurance company and get a plan from them for a year or so until you are eligible for a regular US individual health insurance policy. How to get afforable health insurance for my family

How to get afforable health insurance for my family?
I applied for Antea Health insurance a few months back. I had to cancel it because I was not able to afford the exam they needed for my family. Is there any insurance companies that do not need the exams? I haven't had one in years. I really need to get some insurance because I have a 20 month old son. Any suggestions? I have looked online but I can't afford more than $200.00 a month.

1 :
look at the deuductibe rates. you can also select a yearly plan where you use it or loose it - so you can leave dental out with hearing and sight. Those are readily affordable. YOu can also set a small portion in the bank as savins which is quite hard to keep saved. All in all with a 500 deductible, use it or loose it plan and a small savings @ 500 you should be able to afford one for about 250 month or try select. Go to your State Department of Insurance, once you have insurance you can also file it in your IRS
2 :
Most insurance companies don't need exams unless there is a questionable condition or if you are over a certain age and are looking for preferred rates. So if Aetna wanted an exam there must be a reason and all other companies may also require the exam. Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can work with you to find the best plan for your situation and budget. The agent will explain the coverage you get with any particular policy and, more important, what coverage you don't get if you are looking for a less expensive plan. There is no extra charge using an agent.
3 :
Try this one - http://healthplans.my-age.net - I personally have their health insurance. As I know it is the cheapest one for my family in our area.
4 :
"Most insurance companies don't need exams unless there is a questionable condition" haha most insurance will require countless test either to increase your premium as possible an not pay for future treatment saying that it's a preexisting condition. Also they probably want EVERY MEDICAL RECORD for like the past 5 year. Even if you don't report a cold .. they can refuse treatment. Yea check the contract. As an American you should be entitled to Health care provided by your government. "promote the general Welfare" like EVERY other DEVELOPED nation. Have you tried applying for medicaid. As a pharm. Tech I assure you that's the best insurance that I ever ran. If not get a copy of the walmart $4 plan for your next doc visit.
5 :
Online is the best place to get scammed. Or sold a list, instead of insurance. $200 a month isn't going to buy insurance for two people, unless you're taking on a $5,000 deductible. Go talk to a local insurance agent - local to you - and discuss the LOCAL options. He'll have the best suggestions, and the most accurate ones for YOUR LOCATION.

Why is the co-pay for dental insurance more expensive than health insurance

Why is the co-pay for dental insurance more expensive than health insurance?
I compared the co pays on several reputable dental insurance companies and it is very expensive. Many things are not covered, even with the best dental insurance. Health insurance is usually a 10 dollar co pay for primary physicians and a 35-50 dollar co pay for specialty physicians.
Is there any reason why dental insurance co pay is as expensive as it is?
Insurance - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You only go to the dentist one or twice a year if you don't have any problems, and even if you do have a problem, you only go a few times more than that. I'd rather pay 10 dollars for a physician because I go there more often than I do the dentist. Also, dental care is really, really expensive, and it's hard for dental insurance companies to make money because people put the dentist last on their list of places to go unless they're in unbearable agony. Braces cost $5,000 and up where I live, and even a regular teeth cleaning costs three figures. We have a good friend who is a dentist, and he has a hard time earning a living because people put off going, and when they do come they don't like to have any work done anyway. I'm sure there are many other reasons for the copays being so high, but this is just my experience.
2 :
Actually, the only time the copays are so low for health insurance is when you're dealing with those high-dollar plans provided by a lot of employers. (At least those are the types of plans that were provided be employers in the past; that's changing significantly because of the cost involved.) Trust me, these are FAR from the "norm." As for dental insurance, the fact is that there are nearly as many organized networks for dental providers as there are for medical providers (where belonging to as many networks as possible is the best way to ensure you keep new clients coming in to your practice.) Dental insurance, by comparison to what you pay for medical coverage (particularly of the variety you mention) is also CHEAP. And I don't know very many people who would pay triple the price for dental insurance so they could get the $10 copay. In the end, it's really that simple.
3 :
Because the cost of dental insurance is usually so low....
4 :
Generally, people don't buy dental insurance unless they are going to have extensive work done so it's a heavily used product. Unlike medical, people can put off having dental work done (except emergencies) so it's easier to plan to be insured when it's needed and that throws off the "unknown" that is usually a part of insurance purchases. So, it's priced and copays set with a little more cost shifted to the consumer.
5 :
Generally speaking people go to the dentist more than they do a general doctor. Most dental plans cover 2 visits a year. I have not been to the docter in over 2 years.
6 :
You're wrong about medical copays. Some are still $10, but most copays have been getting higher and higher. Currently, I'm paying a $25 copay, and I have excellent health insurance. Typically there are no "copays" with dental coverage. You would be covered at 100% for preventative services, with no deductible. Basic restorative services are subject to deductible (usually around $50) and then paid at 80%, so you owe the remaining 20%. Major services are also subject to deductible, and then payable at 50%.

How do you find affordable health insurance

How do you find affordable health insurance?
I have a friend of mine who lives in Florida. He had open heart surgery a few years ago. After the surgery was done, the Dr walked in the room and told my friend he really never needed the surgery to begin with. He is trying to find health insurance and he is having trouble finding it because of his heart condition even though now he doesn't have one. Most of the health insurance companies want more then $1500 a month to insure him. How does he find affordable insurance in the US?
Insurance - 1 Answers

You can try increasing the deductible. A higher deductible can result in a much lower premium. Your only other options would be Medicaid or a medical discount plan. Be very wary of these plans. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. How do you get health insurance if you suffer from depression

How do you get health insurance if you suffer from depression?
I have a friend who's been turned down for salary protection because he was once treated with depression. He's afraid now that he's becoming self-employed he's going to have trouble getting health insurance. Is there anything he should be doing to get covered?
Mental Health - 6 Answers

There are lots of insurance companies that cover mental illness, including Compsych and UBH (united behavioral health). Tell him to check those out.
2 :
I've never been turned down and always been open about my propensity for depression. i had bcbs. It could be that he has to pay a little more, but depression isn't the stamp of denial that, say, cancer, is. his last employer might have just had a really crappy plan. he might have to pay a little more than your average, never been sick adult.
3 :
Tell your friend that he must 'look' at the 'insurance plans' ... and he must have 'good paperwork' about his 'treatment for depression' ... I've had malignant melanoma twice, and it's possible for me to get insurance ... but the insurance costs more than it's worth (it's well over $350 per month) unless I get admitted to a hospital. If your friend can 'prove' that his 'depression' wasn't more than a 'blip' he may not be 'charged' as much for his insurance, but the depression will be considered a 'pre-existing condition' and that won't be treated for up to one year following the contract taking effect. In my state it's only three months, but that is one of the reasons why the 'cost' is so high for me.
4 :
It's my understanding that it is illegal to be turned down for medical coverage for certain things. Depression could be one of them. Is this friend, telling his/her personal medical history to someone who is not a doctor or covered by HIPA confidentiality laws?
5 :
Iam bipolar and also suffer from depression. I have never been turned down. I would advise him to not include it in the paperwork. Depression is such a changable disorder. You can be treated and never need treatment again. So there really is no need to say anything about prior issues to the insurance company. It is your doctor who will need to know the history. Many companies even offer free sessions with a theripist, so dont worry, I have never heard of an issue like being turned down and I worked for United Health Care
6 :
I don't understand the link with "salary protection" & depression but... If your friend is in the US & has been covered by employer-provided insurance, he should also be covered by the HIPAA laws & should be able to look at COBRA or conversion coverage, regardless of why he's leaving his old job. Next, most insurance companies that offer individual policies have specific underwriting guidelines for how recently, & how, pre-existing conditions have been treated to decide whether to apply a pre-existing condition exclusion & for how long. If your friend's depression was treated more than a year ago, then it's probably a non-issue. If it's more recently, he may just be subject to a pre-existing condition exclusion for some period of time. Some companies also "rate up" (read: raise) their premiums for people who have pre-x exclusions but it's typically not a huge increase. I'd suggest he look into HIPAA & get prices from a few different insurance companies to find the best deal. If he's in the US, he's not uninsurable - it just may be more than he's willing to pay.

Insurance - 4 Answers

1 :
if he's not had any heart problems for that long then by law the companies can not count that as pre-existing! according to the portability act they can't go back more than a year for pre-existing. have him call his local Blue cross blue shield of Florida and get a price quote. the only thing that can be pre-existing is care/treatment within the past year...
2 :
I beg to differ with Heather. The pre-existing clause in the portability act only refers to group policies. Individual policies will usually look back 5 - 10 years for surgeries and heart conditions. They can choose to decline you, rider the condtion for a period of time (1 year to permanent) or increase the premium, as you are finding out. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.

What are some affordable Health Insurance Options in NYC for Latin American father and his child to be

What are some affordable Health Insurance Options in NYC for Latin American father and his child to be?
My friend doesn't have health insurance and is planning on putting his new baby (born around Oct.) on his policy with him. He's Latin American and has his permanent residence card, but is not yet a citizen.
Anyone know of any affordable plans for him to look into in the Manhattan area?

I'm sorry that answers so far appear to be spam. An insurance company will require a SSN. I don't know if your friend has a SSN. Without a SSN, your friend will not be able to obtain quotes from any company that I am aware of. I am assuming he is employed with a green card, so he should first ask the HR department of his company regarding health insurance options. If his employer offers no health benefits, AND he has a SSN, then he can shop for personal health insurance. Whether or not the plan is "affordable" depends on the types of coverages he is looking for. A high deductible plan will always be more affordable in terms of premiums, but he will end up paying more out-of-pocket on expenses. If his wages are low, his child might qualify for the NY SCHIPS program, which is state government health insurance specific for children.
2 :
He's not going to be able to do this. Private health insurers in NY aren't going to give you a policy on a new baby. That first year, IF nothing goes wrong, costs thousands and thousands of dollars, in all those well baby checkups and innoculations. But, let's pretend he's 30 and perfectly healthy. A family plan, would cost about $1200 a month, for a low/no deductible plan. Or private coverage for him, would cost around $300 a month, or theoretically, private coverage for a healthy 2 year old, would cost around $200 a month, assuming a good, low/no deductible plan. So, when you say affordable, you're probably not talking about $500 a month - which is what it would cost for a low/no deductible plan. He should sit down with a local agent, who can explain how it works, and show him how to balance deductibles with premiums, to get something that's a happy compromise.

What to do if your application for health insurance coverage is denied due to lower back issues

What to do if your application for health insurance coverage is denied due to lower back issues?
I was denied new health insurance coverage in May 2007 because of lower back pain in January 2007 for which I received physical therapy. I have had continuous health insurance coverage for more than 2 years with no history of back ailments. If I reapply again now (for coverage starting in September), am I likely to be denied again? Is there anything I can do about it? My group coverage through work is very costly, and I'd prefer to have a more affordable plan.

insurance companies rule the world. there's nothing you can do. i'm sorry!
2 :
Go to Cuba. Health care companies are there to make a profit. I'm also frustrated myself. If you do an internet search for independent coverage in your area that might work. Something like Kaiser Permanante offers it. I have health ins. offered through a local hospital and my employer doesn't pay, I pick up all the premiums and it's really quite affordable and a good plan. Good luck to you!
3 :
Depending upon your state, many companies will decline if you've had any back problems in the past 5 years. Visit a local independent agent. This person can contact the underwriters for you to see if any will accept you. Some companies may accept you but put a rider on any back problems. This means they won't cover anything that has to do with or is a result of the back problems. Some companies may cover after 1 year. The agent can find out for you.

What health insurance options do I have while I'm going to college

What health insurance options do I have while I'm going to college?
I will only be working part-time while going to college so I will not have health benefits. What options are available? I'm an older adult, so I will not be on my parents insurance.
Also does it matter if I am attending a community or technical college? I plan to start at a community college, then transfer to a university.

Some colleges/universities offer information on health insurance plans for their students. I know my daughter was eligible for free health services through our State health department because she was considered an adult at 18 and had a minimal income.
2 :
Most schools allow students to pay extra to get health insurance through them. Some have programs that require you to opt-out by a certain date or get stuck paying for it anyway. You should do your own cost comparison, though, as the health insurance offered by schools is a flat rate, making it more expensive than a healthy person could get on his own.

most college and universities offer health services to students. It depends on the school you will be going to and what they offer. you should contact them or look on their website to see what they offer.
2 :
Try to get coverage through your school first. If you cannot get it through your school, and you don't have any serious pre-existing conditions that might disqualify you from individual coverage, apply for individual coverage through a broker (insurance agent) or directly from the insurance company of your choice. Also, some part-time jobs do offer limited health insurance benefits. You could try to get a second part-time job for a few hours a week just for the insurance. You should do anything you can to avoid the dreaded "gap of coverage."
3 :
health-quotes.talk4fun.net - my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.
4 :
If you are under age 24 you can stay on parents insurance. New Obama law. Hope it takes effect now. The college always has a health center. Otherwise, you go to a local community or public health clinic for help. Your being a student has nothing to do with insurance except if you purchase a policy, you may get a discount for that. If you are under 21 insurance is cheaper.

What is the best health insurance plan for a student studying abroad

What is the best health insurance plan for a student studying abroad?
My daughter is studying abroad in Rome this fall. She needs medical coverage for 3 months. Our health insurance policy does not cover her while in Italy. Any suggestions for a good student plan?

You bet. What you want is called Travel Medical Insurance. It does not matter what reason you have for traveling - study abroad is just as good as vacationing. You can learn about it by going to http://www.wavehelp.com/travel-medical/index.htm The column headed "Worldwide Health" and the one headed "Patriot Travel Medical" are where to look. You can buy online if you see something you like. Best wishes.

A friend and his wife just returned from three weeks in Italy. Your daughter is going to have a wonderful time. I don’t have a specific recommendation, but I do have a few thoughts: 1.Does her school in the States have a student health plan she can get and will it extend some sort of coverage in Italy? Does the program or school in Italy have insurance she can buy? These plans are probably the least expensive route since they will be group health plans, which are usually less expensive than individual health insurance. 2.Ask people at her school – especially people who have gone through the same study abroad program and find out what they did for insurance. It’ll be interesting anyway because it will give your daughter a better sense of what to expect apart from such practical matters. 3.Short-term insurance: It doesn’t offer the same range of benefits as longer-term insurance and typically lasts from a month to six months, although you can find short-term policies that last for a year. Short-term plans usually help pay for: hospital stay, ambulatory services, lab exams, x-rays, prescriptions. Short-term typically doesn’t cover dental care, preventive exams, pregnancy, and can be difficult to find when abroad, but plans do exist. 4.Travel Insurance: Probably won’t offer the range of benefits you’d like, but it is an option. 5.Local health insurance agents: Try MostChoice.com. It offers online quotes but more importantly puts you in touch with qualified health insurance agents. You fill out a short form, review online quotes, and within 48 hours local agents will contact you. Tell them what you want and what you want to pay and let them do the rest. There’s no cost or obligation to buy anything, and it’s an easy way to find out exactly what options are available to you and your daughter. You can visit MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insurance.cfm Very envious of your daughter and her Italian excursion, Barnes@MostChoice

A sound business decision would be to consider an HSA, (Health Savings Account,) qualified health plan. Your local Blue Cross Blue Shield is a great starting point when shopping in my opinion. Regarding immunizations for travel, most insurance carriers will not cover this expense. Immunizations other than for travel are usually covered. The price can vary widely. Call your local county/state run hospital.
3 :
Check with your local health department for the cost of the shots. CHEAP insurance has a high deductible.

What is the best health insurance for a 25 yr old married couple

What is the best health insurance for a 25 yr old married couple?
My husband and I are looking for health insurance. I grew up on Blue Cross Blue Shield but I don't know if that is an A rated company or not.
Also, what benefits should I look for, what kind of deductible and what kind of q's should I ask?

bluecross blue sheild is the bomb
2 :
the one that is afordable and your doctors accept
3 :
blue cross and blue shield, most doctors and hospitals take them
4 :
Blue Cross/Blue Shield we have a 200.00 deductible per year per person.with a 20 co pay, and we have medco for prescriptions
5 :
Usually it is up to the company that you work for, that offers the insurance..and who they go through or offer (sometimes large companies/government agencies offer serveral to choose from). It also depends on where you are from. Blue Cross Blue Shield is OK...I like CDPHP over BCBS--but they are peculiar to my area. Your employer should supply you with information (especially if you have the choice of more than one to choose from) that lists deductables, how much per month will be paid out and what they will cover.
6 :
go to www.zanderins.com I'm 29 and my wife and I just went through this process. This site has the best quotes available from multiple companies and it is a fairly simple process.
7 :
As a 25 year old married couple you need to ask yourself a few questions: 1) Are you planning on having children? If so, you want to make sure that the plan you select has maternity coverage. Most straight PPO Indivdiual/Family plans do not offer Maternity Coverage that is reasonable. Depending on your area Blue Cross may offer an HMO based plan that does cover maternity. Be aware - most individual plans that cover maternity have a wait period before the pregnancy will be a covered benefit. 2) You may also want to look at an Health Savings Account (HSA) Qualified plan. Being so young, they afford you a great way to save (tax free) for future medical expenses. Also, because you are young, chances are you will not incur any huge medical expenses - so dont pay the huge premiums for a benefit rich co-pay plan - you will be able to save the premium difference between an HSA Plan and a traditional plan into you your HSA. 3) If you are self-employed - make sure you look for a plan that covers on the job accidents - some plans exclude this coverage, so be sure to ask for a Sample Policy Cert before signing up for any policy 4) Use a local independent agent - they have the most knowledge on the plans that are available in your area. Hope this helps and good luck!
8 :
Yes, BCBS is A rated. You can always check with AM Best. If you're getting it through your employer, you probably don't have many options. If you're buying a private policy, it's likely to cost you about $250 a month, each. If you're relatively healthy, it's probably worth it to take a higher deductible in exchange for a significantly lower monthly premium - RUN THE NUMBERS before you buy. Make SURE you buy from a licensed agent IN YOUR AREA. A great price on health insurance means NOTHING if you have to drive 200 miles to see an in network doctor. And lastly, I'm sure you'll get lots of offers from this posting, for "health discount plans". They are a scam. Or rather, the vast majority of people you try to use them, hate them. Very few providers take them, despite what the salesperson says. Plus, 60% off a $100,000 hospital bill STILL leaves you with $40,000 out of pocket. OUCH!!

At age 40 you can still apply for all of the insurance providers in Panama. Most have age limits starting at 60 - although some go up to 74 and then there is one provider that has no limit. Health insurance companies include Aseguradora Mundial, Aseguradora Ancon, ASSA, IHI - Bupa - HSBC Seguros, Blue Cross - Blue Shield, World Wide Medical, Santa Fe Plan, and Alico. As an insurance broker I can get you quotes from all insurance companies. Since you have no pre-existing conditions you are eligable for all. The adminision requirements are different for foreigners than for Panamanians. Feel free to write to me - forlacol@gmail.com Look forward to assisting you. Ursula Kiener Ford
